Time Attack
When NEW is selected, that time regardless of how good it is will be overwritten with the highest priority. For example, the default time is 0'00"00, but any time will beat it. If you set your time to that without checking NEW, that time will be impossible to beat. Also, make sure your 1st place time is the fastest, 2nd place 2nd fastest, etc. I have not filtered the values and if the game finds something in the save it doesn't understand, it won't understand anything beyond that point in the file and will interpret it as being default. And then it will save it as new, erasing what you had. Back up your save just in case and please report any problems.

Sonic 3 / S3K
- File Type
- When a file is marked as NEW, it will display the emerald data on the file but it will be overwriten when you load the file. When you make changes to a file, the "NEW" checkbox will be unchecked for you.
- Character
- The character that you play as in the file.
- Stage
- The stage you are at. Different characters have different final stages.
- Emeralds
- In S3K, Emeralds have 4 phases: Not having the Emerald, getting the Chaos Emerald, (getting the Emerald in a Sonic 3 Special Stage), in HP (absorbed into the Hidden Palace), and challenging the Super Emerald. If you have any of the Emeralds in HP, you cannot go Super until you have all the Super Emeralds.
- # of Emeralds
- This tells Sonic 3 how many Emeralds you have (I guess it can't use common sense and count). Having all the emeralds check doesn't mean anything without this. This must be set to 7 if you want to go Super or if you want your file to have the Super Sonic icon when you complete the game. If you have all Emeralds and this is not at 07, you can still enter Special STages (resulting in the hidden 8th Special Stage).
- Last SS entered
- This is the previous Special Stage you were in. You'll be taken to the next unbeaten Special Stage when you enter another SS Ring until you have all the Emeralds. You should set this to 0 if you have all Emeralds.
- SS Rings
- SS Rings are Special Stage Rings. When you get one, the game keeps track of which SS Rings are not available in the current stage. Each SS Ring has a different bit in this value. The bits apply to which SS Rings are unavailable for the current stage. When you clear the game and you can choose any stage, this is no longer used.
- Clear Icon
- This is the icon you see on your file in S3K. It can be one of 3 things depending on how you complete the game. If you complete the game without getting all the Chaos Emeralds, you see the first image. If you get all the Chaos Emeralds but have not gathered all the Super Emeralds, you'll see the second image. If you beat the game with all Super Emeralds, you'll see the "All Clear" image. The first 2 images are different for each character but the "All Clear" image is the same for everyone.
